Canberra is a beautiful city of lakes, parks, national buildings and colorful tree lined streets surrounded by bush land and mountains. To view this remarkable planned city from a balloon provides a unique perspective. No other way of seeing Canberra so effectively brings together designer Walter Burley Griffin’s vision and how it has been translated into the vibrant capital that Canberra has become. Your experience starts with meeting at the Hyatt Hotel 30 minutes before sunrise and ends after landing with a traditional sparkling wine celebration and commemorative ‘Flight Certificate´. All flights last between 45 minutes and 1 hour.

Your flight experience begins early in the morning at the Hyatt Hotel, centrally located on Commonwealth Ave, a two minute walk from Parliament House.

You'll meet just before dawn as this is the best time to fly. From the Hyatt you are taken to the launch site. It takes around 20-25 minutes for the balloon to be inflated and standing upright ready for boarding. You are welcome to help with the setup of the balloon or simply stand back and take photos as your aircraft takes shape and comes to life.

Dawn lift-off! As the new day dawns, you will ascend into the sky in your colourful balloon. Your balloon will float gently along the breeze, whilst in your basket you will feel completely secure with very little sensation of movement. During your flight you may find yourself drifting just above the treetops then moments later effortlessly ascending to heights of 2000-feet or more.

Photography from the balloon is encouraged and you will be rewarded with stunning shots of Canberra, providing you with years of fond memories.

After approximately one hour you will be greeted by your ground crew as you touch back down to earth. The balloon is packed away with lots of laughs, then you hop back into one of the vehicles and return to the Canberra Hyatt. Enjoy a glass of Australian sparkling wine as you are presented with a commemorative flight certificate as part of our traditional ballooning celebration.

Our Canbeera Explorer tour takes you to three great craft breweries across the Capital and an awesome craft beer pub.

When: Saturdays, 11am-5pm.
Pick up:  11:00am We meet at BentSpoke Brewing Co, 38 Mort St. Braddon.
Duration: approximately 6+ hours.

Number of guest per tour: maximum 10 people per tour (contact us for information on larger groups).

Inclusions: Behind the scenes tours of each brewery, a heap of fun facts about beer, a good number of beer and cider tastings throughout the day, an amazing lunch, transport in our air conditioned buses, snacks and water, and an awesome tour guide.

What to bring: sturdy enclosed shoes, camera.

Itinerary

1. After meeting your guide outside BentSpoke brewpub, it’s off to our first stop, Zierholz Premium Brewery in the industrial suburb of Fyshwick.  Here you will learn all about beer and what goes into making it, with a beer in your hand of course, from the owner and brewer Christoph. With a head full of beer knowledge we get behind the scenes and go deep inside the brewery to see where it all happens.  Out the other side of the brewery and back in the tasting bar, it's time to taste more of their German-inspired beers before we head off to lunch.

2.  Lunch is at The Durham Castle Arms at Kingston.  A stalwart of the Canberra pub scene, “the Duzza” has 10 taps of constantly rotating craft beer and hosts regular tap takeovers and beer “fight clubs”. Grab a burger, schnitzel or choose from a range of other tasty lunch options while enjoying a cold beer during our stay.

3. A short trip back into town takes us to the Wig & Pen Tavern, Canberra’s oldest craft brewery, which opened in 1994.  Here we will chat with head brewer, Alan, explore the brewery, learn about cask conditioning and have a peek in the barrel room.  We then retire to sample more of their wares in the bar, which was once the green room for the Llewellyn Hall concert venue where the brewery now resides.

4.  With time to squeeze in one more brewery, it’s back to BentSpoke in Braddon.  Opened in 2014 by award-winning brewer Richard Watkins and partner Tracy, marvel at the innovative use of space (not to mention the shiny stainless steel and bicycle-inspired décor) as we sample beers from the seasonally changing 18 taps. With the brewery as a backdrop to the bar, you can even “tour” from the comfort of your table.

Finish: approximately 5:30pm at BentSpoke Brewing Co in Braddon, which is minutes from many of the area’s fine restaurants for a dinner stop to round out One Great Day.

Please note, while this is our usual itinerary, the order may change slightly due to brewery operations. Our guides/drivers do everything they can to have you back as close to the drop off time as promised.

Canberra: 7 Hour Canbera Discovery, Tidbinbilla Wildlife and Electric Bike Tour more_vert
$139.00 AUD Book
close
If a lakeside bike ride combined with the chance to spot koalas and kangaroos sounds like your type of day, this is the tour for you! Get to know Canberra alongside a local guide for a full day of outdoor fun. Glide around Lake Burley Griffin's scenic cycle paths on an electric bike before heading to Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve for a guided walk amongst the local wildlife — making this one unforgettable day in Canberra.

Our journey starts in front of the National Library at Reconciliation Place, with stories of Australia’s First Nations peoples and their enduring connection to the country. Then it’s time to hop on our electric bikes.

Joining the lakeside cycle paths, on your pedal assist electric bike you’ll glide along the heart of the nation's capital, passing through the avenue of flags and around the central lake. You’ll be able to soak up the grand vistas of the city's national buildings framed by the glimmering lake in front and forested peaks behind.

Leaving the heart of the city we’ll head into the parklands around the lake to uncover the natural character of the capital. Emerging from the parklands we’ll cycle by a strip of lakeside cafes — the perfect time to take a short break and maybe grab a coffee or try an exotic smoothie (drinks and snacks are at your own cost).

A short ride around the lake completes the circuit, pausing to admire a lakeside sculpture, or just to smile at the antics of the water birds. After completing the cycle circuit you’ll have time for a quick lunch at one of the cafes near the start/finish point.

Next up, we’ll hop on board the comfortable passenger van to start our scenic 45-minute drive into the mountains southwest of Canberra to the spectacular Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. Your local guide will introduce you to this beautiful mountain region and explain its natural and cultural significance.

We’ll take a short break to stretch our legs at the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve Visitor Centre where you can explore the wildlife displays, enjoy a coffee or a cool drink, or explore the gift shop. A 10-minute drive transports us to the sanctuaries deep inside the reserve where your guided wildlife walk will begin.

You can choose to walk a little or a lot — it’s up to you. We offer short guided walks to meet the koalas, wallabies and other wildlife close to the sanctuary carpark.

After the wildlife walks you have the choice to either hop on an electric bike for an easy and magical "ride with the 'roos" back through the park, or get back into the vehicle for a stop at a grassy field to check out more kangaroos and soak up the mountain scenery.

Before or after visiting the nature reserve (dependent on weather conditions on the day), we’ll visit the NASA Deep Space Communication Complex to learn about the search for life in the universe and the distant spacecraft exploring our solar system.

Then it’s a scenic trip back across the river to the city, where we’ll be glad to drop you directly at your accommodation, as long as it is within 20 kilometres of the city centre. Please let us know where you’ll be staying when you book the tour.

Before you go, don’t forget to ask your local guide for all the latest happenings in the city and for recommendations on what else to see, do, and eat during your stay in Canberra.
